About SATSA
The Department of Agriculture was established in 1871 following the 1866 Bengal and Orissa famine, with Allan Octavian Hume as its first Agriculture Secretary. By 1915, structured services and agricultural zones were introduced, and rural reconstruction projects began in 1926, alongside early horticultural and jute regulations.
In the mid-1900s, the SAS Class-I Association was formed, fighting for improved status and rights for agricultural technologists. Despite government resistance, the Association held rallies, organized meetings, and began movements for job equality, leading to the establishment of the "All India Agricultural Service Association" in 1965.
During the 1980s, SATSA, WB worked to advance the position of agricultural technologists, pushing for modernization and improved planning in agricultural development. In 1996, members rallied for greater transparency, leading to a transformative new leadership in the Association's central committee.
